About his boyhood
John Clayton Mayer is an American singer-songwriter who have done
nine albums and won a Grammy Award of his song "Your Body Is a
Wonderland".
He was born in Connecticut 16th October year 1977. Mayer found his
love to the music when he was just a little child. He listened pop
music for many years but he wasn't even thirteen when he found
another love; playing guitarr. After two years of passioned practice,
he started to play at blues bars in his hometown. After several years
of practice he knew clearly that music was what he wanted to do in
his life.

Right after High School he went to study to Boston's Berklee College
of music but after first year he thought that studies didn't gave him
much challenge and he realized that instead of studiyng music he
wanted to play it. So, he stopped college and moved to Atlanta where
he started to do small shows at local clubs with his schoolmate Clay
Cook. He began his career in earnest there, quickly making a name for
himself.

About his career

He published his first album "Inside Wants Out" in 1999 but year
after his second album "Room for Squares" was real breaking trough
and he started to get name at musicbusiness. He climbed to 8th on the
Billboard 200 and selled more than 4 million copies on the strength of
such singles as "No Such Thing" and "Your Body is a Wonderland."

For a long time he used to play acustic rock but after year 2005 he
started to take some influences from blues music to his songs.
Those influences showed up in his sixth album "Continuum" which was
published in year 2006. "Waiting on the World to Change" became the
album's commercial highlight

That was Mayer's third studio album to go platinum, and Rolling Stone
says it "deftly fuses his love for old-school blues and R&B with his
natural gift for sharp melodies and well-constructed songs." At the
same month he won two Grammys for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and
Best Pop Vocal Album. Those awards stabilised his place as a respected
artist.

About his style

Mayer used to mix genres like pop, rock, blues and soul. He takes
influenced by example Joni Mitchell, Counting Crowes, James Taylor,
Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and specially Jimi Hendrix. His real talent and
style lies in his excellent guitar playing which he uses in his songs.

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there’s still a chance for you
‘Cause there’s a spark in you?

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

‘Cause baby, you’re a firework
Come on, show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ’em go, oh
You’re gonna leave ’em falling down

You don’t have to feel like a waste of space
You’re original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you’re reason why all the doors are closed

So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow
And when it’s time, you’ll know

You just gotta ignite the light and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on, show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ’em go, oh
You’re gonna leave ’em falling down

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It’s always been inside of you, you, you
And now it’s time to let it through

‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on, show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go, oh
As you shoot across the sky

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ’em go, oh
You’re gonna leave ’em falling down

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom

Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

I think Katy Perry’s Song Firework made Children start to believe in there selves and made them open up to new things and not only children but adults as well, thats why she told MTV News “I think that’s why I wrote it, is because I really believe in people and I believe that people have a spark to be a firework,” and “It’s just up to them, and a lot of times it’s only us that’s standing in the way of reaching our goals, fulfilling our destinies, being the best version of who we possibly can be, so that’s why I wrote it.”
When I listen to this song I’ve discovered that the more I remember to be positive the brighter my future looks and the more others want to be around me. It’s a really good feeling.

I roll up
I roll up
I roll up
Shawty I roll up
I roll up
I roll up
I roll up

[Verse 1: Wiz Khalifa]
It’s your anniversy is’nt it
And your man ain’t acting right
So you packin’ your Domiar luggage up callin’ my cell phone, try and catch a flight
You know one thing straight, I’ll be there girl whenever you call me
When you at home that’s your man, soon as you land you say that’s all me
But shit ain’t all g with him no more, you ain’t entertained
Since I meet you a couple months ago you ain’t been the same
Not sayin I’m the richest man alive but I’m in the game
As long as you keep it 100 I’m a spend this change,

[Chorus:]
Whenever you need me
Whenever want me,
You know you can call me, I’ll be there shortly
Don’t care what your friends say, cause they don’t know me
I can be your best friend, and you be my homie
I ain’t gonna flex, I’m not gonna front
You know if I ball, then we all gonna stunt
Send her my way, she ain’t gotta hold up
Whenever you call baby I roll up, I roll up, I roll up
Whenever you call baby I roll up, I roll up, I roll up
Whenever you call baby I roll up

[Verse 2: Wiz Khalifa]
I try to stay out your business
But on the real you’re so obvious
And if you keep fitting me in your plans and fuckin up, your mans gonna catch onto us
That white sand surrouding us
He be handcuffing, he should work for them officers
If you rolling I got a spot where I can put you on this medical, and send you home doctored up
You wanna ride with me cause you say that he boring
Wake up you rollin’ weed, cooking eggs in the morning
Ain’t scared to spend this money I’ll make more of it
First you was in the sky now you say you in orbit

[Chorus]

No matter where I am
No matter where you are
I’ll be there when it’s over baby
Cause I was there from the start
No matter if I’m near
Don’t matter if your far
All you do is pick the phone up lady
And I’ll be there when you call

[Outro:]
Send her my way, she ain’t gotta hold up
Whenever you call baby I roll up

Whenever you need me
Whenever want me,
You know you can call me, I’ll be there shortly
Don’t care what your friends say, cause they don’t know me
I can be your best friend, and you be my homie
I ain’t gonna flex, I’m not gonna front
You know if I ball, then we all gonna stunt
Send her my way, she ain’t gotta hold up
Whenever you call baby I roll up, I roll up, I roll up
Whenever you call baby I roll up, I roll up, I roll up
Whenever you call baby I roll up

I roll up, I roll up
Whenever you call baby I roll up

The song I tell about, is maybe the one that tells the least of the life of the artist. I write about Wiz Khalifa´s single Roll Up, it shows the different side of Khalifa, how he can be gentle and nice to his closest friends, especially for girls. Normally all his lyrics are about how much money he gets, how much he drank last night or how high he was. Sometimes every singer needs to try something different and I think for Wiz Khalifa this is it.

I like most of his earlier singles, because of their beat and sound, not so much the lyrics but in ”Roll Up” combines good music and fine lyrics. In the song he tells about how he is always ready to ”roll up”. It got’s two meanings, based on the video he’s just ready to come if somebody needs him, the other meaning is that he is just always ready to roll a joint.

This song makes me feel warm, because it remains all the good moments I’ve had with my closest friends. Maybe this song have some connections to my own life, because I always try to be the best possible friend and support my homies when they need me.

Boards of Canada are a Scottish electronic music duo comprised by Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin. The brothers were born on 1 June 1970 and 21 July 1971, respectively.

Mike & Marcus

Early days

The earliest days of BoC are rather shrouded in mystery and there isn’t excessively much provable information, but it can be said with varying degrees of certainty that the group was at first not a duo, but rather a commune of Scottish musicians and artists. The group, however, thinned down to just the two brothers quickly after its inception, this being the trigger for them to start producing their own music. It was the year 1987 when they released their first tunes, bundled together as “Catalogue 3. At this point their music was still quite private and hardly anyone knew about them, and most of the song titles from this era are found only on early biographies of the group, with the songs themselves nowhere to be found.

This kind of low-profile music production continued up until the year 1995, when they released Hooper Bay. This marks the end of their early days.

After that
*EP: An EP (short for extended play) is a musical recording which contains more music than a single, but is too short to qualify as a full album or LP.

Starting from late 1995, Boards of Canada slowly started to become better known in the ambient/IDM circles, earning a wider audience. It is said by many that the EP* Twoism was their first proper release, as this was the first one to be released outside their private circle of friends and family. In 1996, the group made another release, a full-length album titled Boc Maxima. It was Twoism, however, that lead BoC to whom many call their mentor, Autechre, a senior in the industry. They ended up recording Hi Scores for Skam Records, their first label other than Music70 (the latter being the one they themselves set up on their early days).

1998 marks the release of their first full-length album, Music Has The Right To Children. The sounds of this album are highly inspired by Autechre with whom they worked for years. This is also the first BoC album to receive awards, and multiple ones at that – including  “Album of the Month” – Wax magazine, May 1998 and “No.3” – Jockey Slut Albums of the Year 1998. It also hanged around the top10 on certain charts at the UK for up to five weeks.

In 2002, after a few other releases, another full-length album, Geogaddi, was released. This is one of their better-known releases, with a darker style than most of the earlier releases. The album combines hip-hop, ambient, psychedelic and new age sounds to create mellow, sugary atmospheres with a neurotic twist.

From 2002 onwards there have been  2 notable releases, a full length album titled The Campfire Headphase and another shorter one, Trans Canada Highway. These albums are composed of sounds reminiscing the earlier tunes from the late 1980 era.

Genres/musical style

An understanding of North American TV shows is helpful in understanding the sounds of BoC. The duo has mentioned the documentaries of the National Film Board of Canada (from which the name of the group is derived) being a major inspiration as well. Boards of Canada has, after its inception, experimented with various musical genres. Most songs, however, can be classified as either “ambient” or “IDM“.

Adele – Hometown Glory Live

I’ve been walking in the same way as I did
Missing out the cracks in the pavement
And tutting my heel and strutting my feet
“Is there anything I can do for you dear? Is there anyone I can call?”
“No and thank you, please Madam. I ain’t lost, just wandering”Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I’ve met
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world
Are the wonders of my worldI like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque
I love to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades
I like it in the city when two worlds collide
You get the people and the government
Everybody taking different sides

Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united
Shows that we ain’t gonna take it
Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united

Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I’ve met

Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world
Are the wonders of my world

This beautiful song by Adele tells about her love for London, her hometown.

Though the song isn’t very long, I understand the simplicity of it. This song talks about appreciating  all that’s real and wonderful in the world, starting with the people. People are very diverse so connections we make with the people we meet, and human interactions in general are intriguing. You can feel at home in a place simply remembering all the people you’ve made connections with there. Not many people take the time to remember and appreciate these things, perhaps that is why the “Madam” at the beginning asks if she is lost because she is “just wandering” and remembering.

I think when she talks about the people and the government and two words colliding that she is referring to the division we create by taking opposing sides. Then the whole thing about “shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit…” I think she is saying that “we are united” in “not taking the shit” that extremists of any identifying group can try to sell. Maybe we balance each other out that way, as people.

I fell in love with this song the moment I heard it for the first time. Adele has a beautiful way of capturing the moment in a song, with her jazzy voice. I guess I could say I have some relation to this song as I do as well love the city I was raised and still live in. But, most of us who love our city, don’t actually realize how much we do untill we no longer live there and we start to miss it.

Life

Dani Filth is the vocalist of a British metal-band called Cradle of Filth. He was born in England on 25 July 1973. Dani has two little sisters and one little brother. His original name was Daniel Lloyd Davey, but he later changed his name officially as Dani Filth. Dani has a wife, Toni, who he married in 2005 and the couple has a daughter, Luna Scarlett, who was born in 1999. Before founding Cradle of Filth, Dani was a vocalist in several underground metal bands. He also worked in Chinese restaurant and wrote columns for a magazine called Metal Hammer. Dani collects many things like toys, DVDs, antiques, etc. and his religion is Luciferian (which isn’t the same as worshipping the devil. Luciferian is more of an ideology than a religion).

Cradle of Filth

Cradle of Filth is the most popular British metal band right after Iron Maiden. Band’s music is dark, melodic and heavy. Cradle of Filth’s music can be recognized from melodic guitars, usually fast drum comps and Dani Filth’s idiosyncratic singing voice, which is usually screaming from very high. Cradle of Filth was formed in 1991 and is still working. In 20 years the band’s style has changed a lot. Their first albums were really fast black metal. When time passed, their music started to become more melodic but it remained still dark. In 2001 Cradle of Filth made an album called Damnation And A Day with Budapest Film Orchestra and Budapest Film Choir. Almost every track on that album had some symphonic orchestra parts or then the orchestra and band played at the same time. After that they made two albums, Nymphetamine and Thornography, which were much more melodic and different from the earlier albums, which made the original fans of the band angry. On the two latest albums the music has been again heavier and faster but still very melodic and symphonic.  “Cradle” has made 13 album.

Dani Filth is the only remaining member of the band’s original line-up and he has been the figure-head of the band which can be noticed just from the band’s name. Dani writes all the lyrics of the band by himself. Themes for the lyrics Dani writes are influenced by dark fairytale, gothic literature, poetry, mythology and horror films. Lyrics often deal with death, love, vampire, stories of Bible, Devil, other dark stories. Almost all the lyrics are based on fiction, although there are still some exceptions, concluding two concept albums: Cruelty And The Beast and Godspeed On The Devil’s Thunder. Cruelty And The Beast is based on the story of Hungarian countess Ersébet Báthory. She provedly murdered at least 80 women, and legend says that she killed young women and girls because she wanted to bathe in their blood to look younger. Another concept album based on real historical events, Godspeed On The Devil’s Thunder deals with Gilles de Rais. He was a nobleman and one of the richest man in Europe in 15th century. He was a great protector of Joan of Arc (French Jeanne d’Arc) who was a national heroine of France and a Catholic saint. After Joan of Arc died, Gilles got interested in alchemy and witchcraft and he became a serial-killer. Dani’s lyrics are very beautiful and poetic and he has used lot of energy to research things behind the lyrics and to write them so it’s a shame that in many songs you can’t hear the lyrics at all because Dani is screaming them so roughly. Some would say that in earlier albums his screaming doesn’t sound human voice at all and that it resembles of like some cat or pig is getting killed.

Other stuff

Dani Filth was one of the main characters in a horror movie Cradle Of Fear which was directed by Alex Chandon in 2001. The other band members acted too in cameo roles. Dani Filth has also written a book The Gospel of Filth with Gavin Baddeley. Book tells about the band and meaning and influences of the lyrics. Also the Cradle of Filth -t-shirts have become very popular worldwide even among those who don’t actually listen the band. Some shirts are just “normal”   with the whole line-up and bands name in the front, but some shirts can be taken very offensive. In many countries many people have been arrested (even the ex-drummer of the band) because they had been wearing one of the band’s shirts.

Some people would say that Dani Filth is insane according to their lyrics and brutal music videos and nasty photos taken of them where they are covered in cow blood. I have watched lot of interviews of Dani, and I think myself that he’s clearly on of the most clever metal musicicians. Many black metal artist act really stupid everywhere and say that they worship Satan and murder people etc. but Dani Filth acts politely and he’s lyrics are written very cleverly because he has an excellent imagination and very good knowledge of English and literature. Provosing is of course included in his style too at some stage, but in the interviews for example he doesn’t provose anyone. Instead of that he has proved that he is tolerant and that he really don’t have anything against any religion.

To quote Dani himself:

No, [I don’t worship the devil] of course not. No one says to Stephen King: ‘You must be a devil worshipper because you’ve written so many novels about evil.’ We have a healthy interest in the dark side but I also like to play football and drive cars sometimes. That doesn’t make me an expert in those things, either. There’s a strong Gothic influence in our stuff. A lot of our lyrics are inspired by Byron and Shelley. It’s about escapism and enjoying that. Our younger fans have got into reading really great English literature as a result of our lyrics. It’s better than going out on the streets pushing heroin.

The following videos aren’t the heaviest production of the band and that’s why I chose them. The Foetus Of A New Day Kicking is one of my favourite songs from the band and it also shows a wide range of Dani’s voice usage. Actually it’s one of the very few songs where Dani can be heard singing clean and clearly (in the chorus of the song). Another song is Nymphetamine which is the most popular song of the album which is also named Nymphetamine.
